I'm Shambhavi Kumari, a psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapist based in Jaipur.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with people experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, eating disorders, relationship difficulties, and emotional struggles that are often difficult to put into words. One of the most important things my work has taught me is that emotional suffering is rarely as simple as it first appears. Behind every symptom is a person with a unique history, relationships, and experiences that deserve to be understood with care.

I believe that meaningful change begins with understanding. My role is not to judge, analyse from a distance, or offer quick advice. Instead, I take the time to understand your experience as you have lived it. Together, we explore not only what you are feeling, but also what may lie beneath those feelings — patterns, conflicts, relationships, and emotional experiences that continue to influence your life, often outside of awareness.

Beyond Managing Symptoms

For many people, medication can play an important role in reducing emotional distress and making everyday life more manageable. In some cases, it can be an essential part of treatment. Yet people often find themselves asking, "Why do I still feel this way?" or "Why do I keep finding myself in the same situations?" Symptoms may become quieter, but the underlying emotional struggles can remain.

This is where psychoanalytic psychotherapy offers something different. Rather than focusing only on relieving symptoms, we work to understand what they may be communicating. Together, we explore unconscious patterns, early relationships, and emotional experiences that continue to shape your thoughts, feelings, and relationships in ways that may not be immediately visible. This kind of work requires time, careful listening, and specialised training. As these patterns become understood, they often begin to lose their hold, creating the possibility for deeper and more lasting psychological change.

My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and deeply personal. Every person's story is different, and therapy should reflect that. I believe that feeling genuinely understood can itself become the beginning of change.

I work with adults and adolescents in Hindi and English, offering therapy in person in Jaipur and online across India and internationally.

Where My Approach Comes From

My work is grounded in years of clinical training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, clinical psychology, and trauma-informed practice. It draws from the following:
